Our Story …

We are excited to announce that we're taking part in Lunchbox Rally 2025!

Lunchbox Rally is the newest fundraising project by the people who do Sh*tbox Rally and Mystery Box Rally, these projects have raised over $50 million for Cancer Council in the last 14 years!

Charlotte had a special relationship with her Grandpa, John, who unfortunately passed from Cancer a few years ago. He fought it so hard, and wanted to be around to see her into the teenage years so very much. He didn’t leave much behind, but we did inherit his 1998 Toyota Corolla, and we didn’t want to part with Grandpa’s car.  And then an idea brewed… Simon had always thought it would be fun to compete in the Shitbox Rally, the largest Cancer Council Research fundraiser in Australia, and now we had an incentive, to do it in honour of John in his car. So in late 2022 Simon and a mate took part in the Shitbox rally from Mackay to Darwin. We covered all the costs and then between them they raised $14,000 for Cancer Research. Charlotte and I were very much part of the cheer team. We ended up buying the car back (that is one of the ways they raise funds) and still didn’t want to part with Grandpa’s car. Charlotte is hoping to learn to drive in it. Then, late last year, the idea of the lunchbox Rally…similar thing but for a parent and teenager, came into our email inbox. And so, the fund raising and honouring of John this way continues. He would be amazed how often he is remembered and missed, and also amazed at all the adventures his old Corolla is having (John was a somewhat nervous driver and never took the car on the freeway).  And so, here we are again, hoping to raise funds towards the Lunchbox Rally, which will be four days driving out of Broken Hill through to Flinders Ranges and back to Broken Hill. Simon will drive and Charlotte will navigate. They also have to get the car to Broken Hill first.  Any funds you can donate, or any company or agency you may know of who might want to have their sticker on the car in sponsorship, would be greatly appreciated. Once again, we will be covering entry costs, travel costs and buying the car back (fingers crossed it makes another rally), but they also have to raise $5000 from other sources to be eligible to enter, so all donations gratefully received, and all leads will be followed.  Thanks for taking to time to read about the motivation. Cancer is sadly part of too many people’s story and there are some real research breakthroughs that have been happening.  We will keep you all informed with pics and updates, as we did last Rally, of both Simon and Charlotte’s adventure, and Carolyn’s stressing about them being out there on the dirt tracks at speed in an old Corolla!

Here's what I'm doing …

Lunchbox Rally is not a race – it’s a fun adventure. Each night will be spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the days achievements. It’s an incredible opportunity to see some of Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make new friends!

Lunchbox Rally 2025 will see teams set off from Broken Hill and return to Broken Hill 4 days later! Each night we will be stopping in remote outback locations to enjoy bush hospitality at its finest and be making memories that will last a life time.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Lunch Box Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Lunch Box Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$50 million over the past 15 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
